Hello, my name is Dave Holmes. I am a fully qualified grade 5 Driving Instructor operating in Gravesend and surrounding areas.

I offer a full range of driving training including assessment lessons, weekly lessons, intensive crash courses, refresher lessons, pass plus

And motorway lessons.

I'm a friendly, patient and professional DSA Approved Driving Instructor.

About Us

Pedals have been established since 1995, after qualifying and instructing for BSM for two years, I felt that I could offer more personal service. I realize that people are different, some learner drivers may never have driven before, and be nervous and require lots of practice and encouragement.

Others may have had driving experience with family, in another country, or with another driving school, and just need a few hours to perfect the skills they have already developed in order to pass their driving test.

I will initially assess your needs and structure your lessons to give you the confidence and best opportunity to becoming an excellent driver. I offer door to door pick up and lesson times to suit you, including evenings & weekends.

Theory Test

With Pedals, you can learn to drive and pass your test in a professional and enjoyable atmosphere.

The driving theory test is a 50 question, multiple choice test using a computer touch screen. To pass, you must answer 43 or more questions correctly within 57 minutes.

The questions are chosen at random from a bank of over 1,000 questions covering all driving topics.

You have to obtain a pass in the theory & hazard perception test before you can apply for the practical driving test.

The fee for the combined theory and hazard perception test is £31.00.

Hazard Perception Test

The Hazard perception test is again carried out on a computer and will continue after three minutes of completing the theory test. The test will contain 14 video clips each lasting about one minute. Each clip contains one or more various hazards and you have to respond to them by pressing the mouse button as soon as you see the hazard developing. There are 15 score able hazards in total.

The earlier you respond the higher your score. A total of 75 points are available and you have to score at least 44 to pass.

You have to obtain a pass in the theory & hazard perception test before you can apply for the practical driving test.

The fee for the combined theory and hazard perception test is £31.00.

The Practical Driving Test

At your practical driving test, you will have 40 minutes to demonstrate everything you have learned in your driving lessons .

You'll need to show you can drive competently and safely in all kinds of driving situations. You'll be asked to do two of the three reversing maneuvers that you've practiced, possibly make an emergency stop and answer two vehicle safety check questions, one 'show me' and one 'tell me'.

To pass, you will have to complete the test with no serious faults and less than 16 minor errors. A weekday test costs £62.00. For an evening or weekend appointment, it will be £75.

The current national average practical driving test pass rate is 43%, so it makes sense to be as prepared as possible, as your driving instructor I will advise you when you are ready for the test and also help you to understand the main reasons people fail.

If you fail your practical driving test, but pass your theory, you need only sit the practical next time. You will be ready for the test when you have reached the standard set out in “The official Driving Test” book.

At this point you will be able to drive consistently well, with confidence and without help or guidance . Waiting until you are ready will in the end save you money. I will carry out a mock test to provide you with a true reflection of your driving in readiness for the test.

The Pass Plus

New drivers are more likely to have a crash in their first two years of driving than at any other time in their driving career. One in every five will have an accident within their first year behind the wheel.

After you have passed the practical test you can improve your driving further by taking a Pass plus course. This is a scheme that comprises of 6 modules including -:

After successful completion you will receive a certificate, which with participating insurance companies will give, discounts on their car insurance premiums. The discount could pay for your actual pass plus course and still save you money.
